There are several districts to stay in:
1-Taksim Hotels: If you don’t want to take a taxi after a night out, Taksim’s hotels would be a nice option to stay in. These are a bit more expensive than other ones, but also offer better quality service.
The problem with this location is that you need to use public transport or a taxi to get to Sultanahmet, the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar or Eminönü. However, if you have been in Istanbul before and saw many of these sites and learned about the heritage of istanbul, Taksim is a great launching pad to go wherever you want in Istanbul.
2-Sirkeci Hotels: Sirkeci is located between Eminönü and Topkapı Palace, so you can see most of “must see places in istanbul” on foot.
3-Akbıyık Hotels & Hostels: Akbıyık is actually an avenue -very close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia Museum- which is full of hostels, cafes and bars. It is tourist accomodation central, so you may not be able to see many locals at its cafes. Most of the hostels also have terraces where you can enjoy great views of Istanbul, especially at night.
However, if you need to get somewhere fast, you only have taxis to contend with. And if you will stay more than a couple of days you may get fed up with walking to the tram station or Eminönü ports.
4-Beyazit & Laleli Hotels: The hotels here are -for most tourists- the best hotels in terms of service in the old part of the city. It is close to tram stations so you can go wherever you want.
5- Nisantasi Hotels: The hotels in the Nişantaşı district mostly provide unique services for their guests, so they are more expensive than old city hotels. It is close to most shopping areas but far from the touristic places.
6-Levent & Maslak Hotels: These hotels are mostly suited to business travellers as they are close to business centres but not touristic places in Istanbul.
7-Airport Hotels: These hotels are close to Atatürk International Airport or Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Their quality of service are generally superb and they will do anything to help you arrange your meetings in Istanbul. However, they are located very far from old part of the city, so we suggest these hotels for business travels or if you will attend a congress or trade fair in istanbul.
Except for all these districts, you can find a hotel wherever you want to stay or whatever your purpose is for travel in Istanbul. Kadikoy, Beşiktaş, Aksaray, Topkapı and Ortaköy are other central hotel areas in Istanbul.
