Sunny weather in Istanbul Eminonu

Sunny weather in Istanbul Eminonu (by Rana Dp)

Istanbul has a temperate climate, giving it four (mostly) defined seasons which draw on a blend of Mediterranean and Black Sea weather types. While the summers are long, dry and hot, the winter season is typically rainy and mild with occasional snowfalls. Autumn and spring tend to be unpredictable, with grey, wet days peppered with clear and sunny ones.

One of the most popular questions we get about Istanbul is when to go. Weather-wise, early and late summer, late spring and early autumn are ideal (April, May, June and September) as the humidity isn’t so high and the crowds far less chaotic. Springtime is particularly stunning, as the city explodes with colour during the annual Istanbul Tulip Festival!

The basic rule of thumb for seasons outside of summer is to have a light raincoat or umbrella handy at all times! Dress warmly in winter as temperatures average around 10 degrees Celsius, while in summer a light cardigan will be sufficient for the late evening.
