Squares in Istanbul
Taksim Square is one of the most popular place in Istanbul. Taksim and Beyoglu known as night clubs and pubs. They are open until 05.00 am.You can always take a cab in Taksim square. City is always alive there… Taksim Square is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of buses and the Istanbul Metronetwork. So, It is really easy to reach from everywhere of the city. In the middle of the square there is a sculpture named Monument of the Republic. It is really a good meeting point 😉
This square is also known as “hippodrome”. Sultanahmet Square used to be a hippodrome in Byzantine era. Important events were celebrating in hippodrome. Today, it is one of the most important place in the city. You can find obelisks in here. Also the Square is close to museums, Sultan Ahmet Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, etc. So it is a good spot for having a rest in your little city tour.
Bayezid Square was the city’s largest square in the Byzantine period. Bayezid district, Istanbul University is in the square. It is named because of the Bazeyid Mosque which is in the square.Bayezid Square also connection to antiquarian book bazaar and the Grand Bazaar, and also a main terminal of city buses.
